Public Health Minister Visits Hillcrest Surgery ( posted on Feb 12, 2016 )

On Thursday 4th February Jane Ellison, Parliamentary Under Secretary of State for Public Health visited Hillcrest Surgery.


The Surgery has worked with midwives from local hospital trusts to set up one of the countries few GP Surgery based clinics for women who have suffered FGM.


Every other week a team of midwives, a health adovcate and counsellor run a clinic at Hillcrest Surgery. Patients travel from all over the country to attend this specalised clinic.


During her visit the Minister met with patients who have suffered FGM as well as the team that provide the service.

Friends and Family Test ( posted on Dec 2, 2014 )

From December the Practice will be giving patients the opportunity to give us feedback after every visit.  The Survery is the same as that used in hospitals and other healthcare settings and is called the Friends and Family Test.


It asks two simple questions:

1) based on your experience today would you recommend this service to your friends and family

2) what is the main reason for your answer to question 1


We hope that using this test will allow us to make continual improvements to our services and also to recognised staff who go the extra mile.

Changes to the Appointment System


Following consultation with patients and staff from

1st September our appointment system will operate as follows:


  • One third of appointments will be available up to 4 weeks in advance.


  • One third of appointments will be available 48hrs in advance.


  • One third of appointments will be available for those patients who need to be seen on the day.  These, as before, will be available following triage by the Duty Doctor.


  • There will be a specified number of telephone consultations available every day with those GPs working that day.


  • Online booking will be available again from 11th September.


We hope that this will allow those with chronic diseases to book and plan their appointments in advance, provide convenient appointments for working patients, guarantee patients who urgently need to be seen an appointment that day and give patients the convenience of daily telephone advice from a GP.
