Boosting productivity – piloting Artificial Intelligence (AI)
The NHS 10 year plan and many pilots (eg https://www.standard.co.uk/news/tech/nhs-stephen-kinnock-gosh-b1245896.html) recognise the benefit of using AI to support the work of the NHS.
At Hillcrest Surgery we are piloting software that works as a medical scribe, transcribing consultations for clinicians to then edit and save in to patient notes. This frees up the clinician to focus on the conversation with their patients rather than trying to record all the critical information.
The products we are piloting have been approved for clinical use and are actually classed as a medical device. They do not retain patient information or use it for learning. It is referred to as ambient AI.
Key Features & Benefits
· Improved Patient Focus:
By handling administrative tasks, AI allows clinicians to devote more attention to the patient during the visit.
· Increased Efficiency:
The real-time documentation process improves efficiency by ensuring accurate and quick capture of important information.
· Enhanced Accuracy:
The system helps reduce the risk of errors in patient records by accurately documenting the consultation as it happens. The transcription is always read, checked and amended as appropriate by the clinician.
· Data Security:
Products used by Hillcrest Surgery comply with data protection laws (like GDPR), and no audio recordings are stored after the consultation is complete.
· UK Compliance:
It is designed to meet NHS standards and data protection frameworks, ensuring its safe use within healthcare settings.
If you would like to discuss this or have any concerns please ask for the Practice Manager to call you. We are keen to understand patient concerns and also ensure patients understand the safeguards in place as the NHS embraces new AI technology which can improve productivity and patient care as outlined in the NHS 10 year plan.
